In VERONA, ITALY the land of ‘Romeo and Juliet,’ sits the most magical hotel, nestled deep within the countryside of the Valpolicella wine region. The exquisite hotel, Villa Del Quar, is so picturesque and charming, that you will literally feel as though you have been transported into a real-life fairytale. Surrounded by countless vineyards in the most gorgeous ‘Vino’ country setting, it’s remarkable to imagine that this five -star hotel and National Monument, is only about 15 minutes from the center of Verona. It boasts the title of being one of the oldest hotels in the world, dating back to 47 AD and is the 2nd town of the Roman Empire. A vast wealth of history makes this province one of the richest in the world and a must for your bucket-list of unforgettable places to visit.

Each and every stunning room throughout the entire hotel is decorated with unique antiques, paintings and gorgeous artwork that are all combined to recreate the atmosphere of the past and of times long ago.

Paolo Veronese's pictorial tradition adds great charm throughout.

The hotel’s ultimate luxury and beauty enables one to simply enjoy the lovely, intimate harmony with nature, as is traditional of the villas of the Roman era. The breathtaking serenity of the country and the spectacular gardens bring to its guests a sense of true tranquility. I might even go as far as describing it as spiritual.

THE ROOMS:

Villa Del Quar brings new meaning to the world of class and exquisiteness. Every one of its 25 completely different rooms, (13 Suites and 12 double rooms) are magnificent. Each chamber’s gorgeous old-world design was carefully decorated with antiques and a distinctive elegance that one has never likely experienced before.

The rooms include the categories of:

Classic, Deluxe, Superior, Junior Suite, Suite Deluxe, Suite in Villa, and Master Suite.

The wonderful mattress in my very quiet suite was so cozy that I had to drag myself off of it in the morning. The covers with their feather-light eiderdowns and high quality cotton sheets provided the perfect night’s slumber.

The Hotel Staff:

I must say whole heartedly that I have never in my life (and I am a travel journalist) been shown the kindness, warmth and helpful attention all displayed with the immense attitude of wanting to please, as I experienced at Villa Del Quar. Furthermore, there are no words to adequately express how much thoughtfulness and caring was given to my every need. I have never felt more at home… Even at home! The discreet professionalism and consideration by every one on the grounds was outstanding in every possible way. The staff’s desire to make sure I experienced the best time of my life was evident at every turn. Being a guest at the villa is incredibly remarkable in every possible way.

Pictured below: are the hearts and main staff of the villa…Stefano Rossato, Daniel N. Barr, owner Leopoldo Montresor, and the hotel’s driver Vinicio Savoia… You won’t have to worry about anything. The staff will take care of everything, down to the smallest minute detail. All you have to do, as I did, is to enjoy and have the time of your life!

ARQUADE RESTAURANT

ONE OF THE BEST GOURMET RESTAURANT’S OF

VERONA

Please do take my advice and choose to stay at the villa for several lunches, dinners, wine and music. It’s a very special, elegant, yet cozy dining memory. It’s basically one big “yummy wow” and a foodies delight. Below are the hotel’s own brand of out-of-this-world wines.

Chef Alessandro Rocchio, a young and talented chef creates the perfect balance between flavors, creativity and colors in the presentation of all his dishes. It appeared to me that the main goal at the Arquade Restaurant is to present its guests with original delectable cuisine, that envelops the sensation of pleasure and excellent customer service. As for myself, the chef’s ability to combine luscious mouth-watering dishes that were beautiful to look at was astounding.

Note, there are several areas in which to dine…
The Modern Dining Area, the TEA Room, Medieval Room, Roman
Cellar, Glasshouse, Sala Tresor, Sala Eurosia, the Garden, the Gazebo, and of course Room Service…

The entire villa can be reserved for one or more days to celebrate weddings, events, parties, recurrences, courses, business events, workshops, meetings and group incentive.

After speaking with the fascinating and brilliant owner (architect by profession, who has a heart of gold), Leopoldo Montresor, I feel it necessary to convey his personal philosophy…

“Because Villa del Quar is a National Monument it is truly worth seeing. It is steeped in Italy’s cultural history and heritage which inspired me to restore this beautiful building paying minute attention to the use of ancient materials and antique furnishings that would perfectly complement the villa’s past. My primary intention was to recreate the atmosphere of the past in accordance with the philosophy of Carlo Scarpa, a world-renowned architect who was my teacher at the University of Architecture in Venice, which highlights the fascinating contrast between ancient and modern in historical buildings.”

Image

What a charmer Montresor is! This enchanting Hotel will no doubt have you dreaming to come back time and time again, as I certainly do!

Better said in Leopoldo Montresor’s own words… “Why do I love what I do?” Because I love telling our clients the stories and anecdotes that have contributed to the rich and varied history of this magnificent building and the wealth of art and culture that is on our doorstep. Why Villa Del Quar? Because we will make you feel so welcome and completely at home.”

Villa Del Quar is not just a Hotel, not just a villa. It is a beautiful private sanctuary that brings a feeling of amazement the very moment you arrive through its ancient doors.

I rate it a solid A+ across the board! Villa Del Quar is a rare and glorious experience of a lifetime!

ABOUT VERONA:

Image

In addition to many of Shakespeare’s plays taking place here, Verona is awesome all on it’s own! Unfortunately, many people tend to skip Verona while visiting Italy. I cannot argue with this idea more. Verona is spectacularly wondrous and a beautiful place. It is actually one of my favorite cities in Italy. There are many lovely hotels right in the city. However, I say, stay in the country at Villa Del Quar instead. You will get the real vibe and essence of the wine country and it’s only just a few minutes into town. A total win-win!

Here are some highlight places to visit while in Verona!

Image

Make sure to jump on the Citysightseeing Verona bus! It takes you all around the city with personal earphones, explaining all of the sights. Most importantly, it takes you to the top of the city to see the awe-inspiring views from above! You will never forget what you see up there! Love this bus as well.

Make sure not to miss checking out some of the world famous wine vineyards in the Valpolicella region. I visited the Zyme Celestino Gaspari vineyards and was taken aback by their fruit of the vine and complete devotion to the art of Winemaking. It’s not just a business; his dedication is like a religion…

AND OF COURSE, after the film, “Letters to Juliet,” you will know what all the fuss is about! And, too, there they lived, Romeo And Juliet! It’s a true story told by Shakespeare…

You can actually visit Juliet’s authentic original balcony, write her a letter and put a lovelock on the wall.

It’s all so totally romantic!

Image

Don’t forget to visit the largest open air Opera House, Arena Di Verona. It is a Roman amphitheater built in the first century. It is still in use today and is internationally famous for the large-scale opera performances given there. A must, even if you are not an opera fan.

Do try out a wine country restaurant. Phenomenal is this one below… Ristorante La Divina!

Image
In addition, check out the Ristorante GREPPIA in the city center.
Vicolo Samaritana, 3, 37121 Verona VR, Italy .
The food is amazing serving authentic food from Verona. No tourist trap here! It’s owned and run by the family for years. All food is cooked and served with love and care. The best part is dining while feeling you’re with your Italian family. Felt like I was in a Pacino film.

And just like that… Verona! So, please run to Verona. I can’t urge you enough. You will never regret it and will forever remember the beauty!

    Ciao…
