Monty Python’s “Spamalot” is Truly Hysterical

This totally hilarious and haphazard musical filled with shtick, starring John O’Hurley (best known as J. Peterman on “Seinfeld”) and the talented Nikki Crawford as the lady of the lake, is now playing at the Wynn Hotel and Casino in the great city of Las Vegas! “Spamalot” is the TALL tale of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table on their quest, search, and journey for the Holy Grail, courtesy of the Monty Python boys. It is based loosely on their 1975 film “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.”

“Spamalot” is the winner of three 2005 Tony Awards, including Best Musical as well as the Grammy Award for Best Original cast recording. This outrageously funny show features a chorus line of legless knights, men in tights, killer rabbits and sexy dancing divas. You will also see show girls, cheerleaders, a knight in shining armor that turns into a singing diva with feathers, flatulent Frenchmen, lots of tap dancing, the Can-Can and other dances, and random funny songs that have NOTHING at all to do with the storyline. Pay close attention to the lyrics, for they will leave you laughing non-stop. You will delight in some of the most unforgettable musical numbers (with hysterical lyrics) that you will EVER hear in the theater. Some of this style actually reminded me of “Forbidden Broadway” with a splash of “The Producers” thrown in. “Spamalot” is a musical that has a fast pace, high energy, is totally fresh, exhilarating, silly, with great costumes, with an out-of-the-box comedy style! IT IS A CROWD-PLEASER in every sense of the word! The audience was roaring throughout the entire show! I cannot imagine anyone not LOVING this crazy and wacky musical comedy.

Leaving the theater, I had to stop and wonder how this talented cast managed to ever get through all of the rehearsals with such a funny script. Everyone in the cast must be having the time of their lives performing in this show. I must also add that ALL of the acting, comedic sense of timing, vocal performances, staging, sets, direction and storyline itself was outstanding!

If you want to laugh for one hour and 45 minutes non-stop (and YOU WILL find the laughter to be contagious), truly get away from it all and enjoy a wonderful time at the theater. RUN to see “Spamalot” at the Wynn Hotel. “Spamalot” is a perfect 10! After all, “what happens in Camalot stays in Camalot!” OH, and go find YOUR OWN GRAIL!!

“Hypnosis Gone Wild” and ‘that’ is an Understatement

TALK ABOUT SLEEP WALKING! This show is literally HYPNOTIC, hilarious, and fun each time you go. This VERY ADULT (NOT FOR MINORS) show is presented at the Empire Ballroom (very cozy old-world Vegas feel) seven nights a week at 11pm and has two stars, Terry Stokes and Michael Johns. You never actually know which brilliant hypnotist will actually be your star. It doesn’t matter at all, as they are both equally amazing! The real stars, however, are actually the 10 audience-member volunteers. My star for the night was 36-year-veteran hypnotist and funny-man Terry Stokes. He is charming, charismatic, funny as heck, truly entertaining, and makes this an absolutely must-see show when you are in Las Vegas. You never know what this hoot-of-a-man will make his victims do. You can tell the show is different all the time by the huge laughter coming from the people who actually work there.

His gags range from…Ya know what, forget it, I will not spoil it for you just go and see for yourself! For those of you skeptics, you will feel better as soon as Terry scoots those who are not under hypnosis off the stage immediately. He does not play, if you are not under, you are out!!! If you are an audience member who falls under Terry’s spell while still in the audience, you might be brought up to the stage as well. The show is a lot of fun, provocative and unpredictable. I laughed harder watching Terry laugh at the reactions of his hypnotized specimens. Terry is a very funny, quick-witted entertainer/comic in addition to his hypnotist talents. It is clear how comfortable he is on stage. Although his presence is relaxed, he will make you roar with laughter. I especially enjoyed how he sprayed his audience members who arrived late with a huge water gun.

The evening ends as the volunteers return to their seats. However, Stokes keeps them under hypnosis and arms them with one last devious suggestion, which is all in fun and lots of laughs. Luckily, all of the suggestions are removed at the end of the show… welllll, most of them that is! Okay, okay, okay, I’ll give you one hypnotic suggestion by Terry. He brings an audience member (lucky lady!!) to the point of ecstasy (and beyond) every time he sneezes… and Terry sneezes a lot! (Man I should have volunteered!) So, if you want to laugh and be entertained for two solid hours, bop on over to see Terry (OR MICHAEL), and YES go ahead and volunteer yourself! You won’t miss all the fun as they sell video tapes at the end of every show. OKAY, okay, okay, I’ll give you one more. Terry makes a guy on stage call every one of the numbers in his cell phone (and it is like 2am for most of the people he called) and instructed him to tell them he wants them to call him Sue when he gets home because it make him feel pretty! I’ll leave you with that to ponder. Go, enjoy, as it is very hypnotic!
